Great to meet you!

Hi there, my name is Tyler White, and I have been a practicing psychotherapist for about 4 1/2 years. I'm a young clinician that enjoys connecting with individuals and going on their journey with them. Born and raised in the metropolitan Detroit area, I received my bachelor's of arts degree in psychology from Oakland University and earned my Master of Social Work at Wayne State University. I work mainly with adults but have an interest and a passion for working with individual in the 20's and 30's (and up). To help them explore their anxieties, relationship difficulties, depressive features and the many different transitions or changes within their lives. Which can cause many uncertainties, distress, and lack of connection.

My approach to therapy

I typically like to work on a weekly basis and work towards forming a strong therapeutic alliance built on trust, comfort and vulnerability. I seek to gain an understanding of what is currently going on in the individual's life and what brough them to therapy. As well as understanding their background to help bring to light any unaware negative behaviors, patterns, relationship dynamics and thought processes. I find myself as a nontraditional therapist, as I am an active participant in the session and bring my personality to the therapeutic framing. I typically focus on anxiety, depressive, relational, transitional and inner-self difficulties such as low-self-esteem or image. My training in education was focused on a psychodynamic background. But I find with many therapists including myself, use a plethora of different modalities and interventions such as cognitive behavioral or person-centered approaches.

What you can expect from me

A client can expect from the first session to feel and understand if the therapeutic alliance and relationship is a good fit. As well as have an introduction to what is going on in the client's life and to gather an overview of what the agreed upon therapeutic goals would be. My personal goal and number one I'll come for the first session is to help the patient feel safe, heard vulnerable and valued as an individual and that they matter.
