Great to meet you!

Hello, my name is Undré Alee, and I’m the owner of Akouw (AH-koo-oh) Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Oklahoma, and I’ve been a psychotherapist for almost two decades. I believe in a holistic approach to life and to help with this I also hold a Master's of Divinity (MDiv.).

In addition to knowing what I'm doing, I truly enjoy doing what I do! For the majority of my career, I've worked as a therapist in non-profit counseling agencies, providing treatment for youth/young adults and their families, who've who dealt with a myriad of presenting problems such as past and present trauma, depression, anxiety, probation, anger management, self-harm, low self-concept, grief, sexual abuse, LGBT+ related traumas, and more. Furthermore, in my private practice, I've provided marriage therapy to couples who've dealt with divorce, conflict-resolution, communication skills, past and present trauma, and more.

"Akouw" is Koine Greek for "I hear/listen/am listening," I named the practice this because I believe that true healing happens when you're heard, and I'm listening. I look forward to working with you towards healing.

A bit about my approach to therapy

I believe that client-centered therapy works best, in which the client is involved in every step of treatment, including treatment plan development to their discharge/transition plan. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Narrative Therapy, Reality Therapy, and a combination of several approaches, contingent upon what my client's needs. Furthermore, I believe that each client deserves unconditional positive regard, no matter their race, religion, sexual orientation, political party, gender, neurodivergence, etc.

What you can expect from our first session

The first 1-2 sessions are known as an intake assessment, in which I will review information (medical, psychological history, family history/background, presenting problems, etc.) which will assist me in understanding and diagnosing your dilemma(s) from a well-rounded perspective. After the intake assessment is completed, I will be able to give an estimated number of sessions expected for treatment as well as the estimated frequency of treatment per week. Then, you and I will develop a treatment plan, which entails treatment goals and corresponding objectives. Once the treatment plan is developed, each 50min session thereafter will be centered around the treatment plan goals and objectives until they are completed.

My goal is to help clients to obtain success despite life’s obstacles, those that come as a result of one’s own poor decisions, the decisions of others, and/or the natural and unexpected tragedies of life. I desire that clients leave feeling encouraged, equipped, and empowered to overcome and/or better manage their present and future presenting problem(s).
