Great to meet you!

Hi! I am Valerie L. Rennon MSN, APRN, WHNP-BC, PMHNP-BC. I am a dual board certified nurse practitioner in both psychiatric mental health and women's health across the lifespan. I have been in practice for over a year now and my most recent experience has been in an underserved and underinsured area of downtown Detroit, MI.

I have also been an adjunct clinical instructor for RN students over the past 3 years. I am a graduate from Michigan State University, University of Colorado Anschutz, University of Texas Arlington and Colorado Mountain College. Having moved about the country for a bit, my husband of 18 years and I have established our home in MI with our two children, dog Curley and our bearded dragon Sami.

My approach to therapy

My approach to providing care for patients is to listen first and foremost. What has been bothering them the most, how long, what has been done to help? I understand how frustrating it is to be a patient and the worst thing is to have a provider not listen and try to understand what is going on with a patient as a root cause in order to help correct that. My goal is always to provide the best individualized care for each patient I see.

What you can expect from me

I like to start with a good intake of all problems and concerns the patient has with a robust time allotment. A good history of the patient's overall health and review of physical systems. Having all current medications and supplements written down on a list is also helpful to streamline the first visit. A collaboration of goals is also established at this visit to lay the groundwork for implementation and future visits. I work with the individual patient on what is important to achieve and what forms of therapy- whether psychotherapy or medication management, or both- is appropriate.
