Great to meet you!

Hi! My name is Vanessa Porea and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Michigan and a Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Nevada. Born and raised in Michigan, I began my career in the mental health field in the community mental health sector in Detroit, Michigan. Upon completing my Master's degree, I moved to Los Angeles to further study addiction at UCLA. I have worked in both private and community mental health care in roles ranging from case manager to therapist to Clinical Director. I enjoy getting to work with individuals who are looking to make changes in their lives and empowering them to know that they are more than their current struggle.

My approach to therapy

I am very collaborative in my approach to therapy, believing that while I may be the one who has the knowledge about therapeutic skills and interventions, you are the expert of your life. I work to understand your situation and your goals to help best support you in implementing the changes that will help you be successful in the ways you define success for yourself. I utilize skills and interventions from many evidence-based practices, including CBT, DBT, ACT, and Motivational Interviewing.

What you can expect from me

Our first session will be a get to know you session! We will do a brief assessment to find what brings you to therapy, help me to learn more about you to identify some goals to suggest, and to learn what goals you have for yourself so that we can create a plan on how to best work together.
