Great to meet you!

I’m Dr. Yvette Takwe, DNP, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to helping adults improve their mental and emotional well-being. I provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care in a supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their treatment.

My clinical experience includes working with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma-related concerns, grief and loss, adjustment difficulties, sleep problems, substance use concerns, and major life transitions. I also have a special interest in women’s mental health and the emotional challenges associated with motherhood, postpartum experiences, trauma, relationships, family responsibilities, and significant life changes.

My approach focuses on the whole person, not simply the diagnosis. I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, individualized treatment planning, medication management when appropriate, and therapeutic interventions that may include cognitive behavioral strategies, behavioral activation, coping skills, emotional regulation, sleep education, and supportive psychotherapy.

As a Doctor of Nursing Practice and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I believe treatment should be collaborative and individualized. Medication can be valuable, but mental wellness also involves understanding your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and daily routines.

My goal is to help you not only manage symptoms but also strengthen your “mental fitness”—building healthier coping skills, confidence, resilience, and emotional stability. Together, we will develop a treatment plan that respects your experiences, values, strengths, and personal goals.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, collaborative, and individualized. I believe effective mental health care begins with listening, so I take time to understand your symptoms as well as the life experiences, stressors, relationships, routines, and concerns that may be affecting your emotional well-being.

I work with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma-related concerns, grief, adjustment difficulties, sleep problems, substance use concerns, and major life transitions. I also have a special interest in women’s mental health, including emotional challenges related to motherhood, postpartum experiences, trauma, relationships, and changing family roles.

Treatment may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management when appropriate, and evidence-based therapeutic strategies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral activation, coping-skills development, emotional regulation, and sleep and lifestyle interventions.

My goal is not simply to reduce symptoms. I want to help you understand your patterns, recognize what is within your control, develop healthier responses to difficult situations, and strengthen your confidence and resilience. I describe this as building “mental fitness”—developing practical emotional and behavioral skills that can support you long after your appointment ends.

You can expect our sessions to be respectful, judgment-free, practical, and focused on goals that matter to you. Treatment is something we develop together, and your voice will always be an important part of the process.

What you can expect from me

My goal is to create a safe, welcoming, and judgment-free environment where you feel comfortable discussing your concerns openly and know that your voice matters. I approach treatment as a partnership—we identify what is affecting your mental health, establish realistic goals, and develop a plan that fits your individual needs, values, and lifestyle.

Depending on your needs, our goals may include reducing symptoms of depression or anxiety, improving sleep, strengthening emotional regulation, developing healthier coping skills, improving daily functioning, rebuilding confidence, managing stress more effectively, and developing healthier responses to difficult relationships or life circumstances.

I also help clients distinguish between what they can and cannot control, challenge unhelpful thought patterns, establish healthier routines and boundaries, and develop practical strategies they can use between appointments.

Ultimately, I want you to leave treatment with more than symptom relief. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, recognize your strengths, feel more confident managing difficult emotions, and build the resilience and “mental fitness” needed to navigate life with greater stability and purpose.
