Great to meet you!

My name is Alma Babbitt, LPCC, LADAC, and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and board-approved clinical supervisor in New Mexico. I have more than a decade of experience providing behavioral health services in community, correctional, substance use, and forensic settings. I hold a Master of Science in Psychology with concentrations in Clinical and Counseling Psychology and am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Fielding Graduate University. My training includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based interventions, substance use treatment, and Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT). I specialize in working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, substance use disorders, grief and loss, behavioral health concerns, and co-occurring mental health conditions. I also have extensive experience conducting forensic, developmental, psychological, and neuropsychological evaluations to assist with diagnosis, treatment planning, and legal matters.

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based. I strive to create a supportive environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to achieve meaningful change. I tailor treatment to each individual's unique needs, strengths, and goals, using proven therapeutic approaches to promote healing, personal growth, and long-term wellness.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each client's unique needs. I believe that meaningful change occurs within a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect, and genuine understanding. I work to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe exploring challenges, developing insight, and building on their strengths.

I utilize evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed interventions, mindfulness-based techniques, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Treatment is individualized to help clients develop practical coping skills, improve emotional regulation, address unhelpful thought patterns, process traumatic experiences, and achieve their personal goals.

I specialize in working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, substance use disorders, grief and loss, life transitions, and co-occurring mental health concerns. I also have extensive experience working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system, those experiencing severe and persistent mental illness, and clients with complex diagnostic and psychosocial needs.

My goal is to help clients increase self-awareness, strengthen resilience, improve relationships, and develop the skills necessary to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives. I view therapy as a partnership, and I work alongside clients to identify solutions, overcome obstacles, and create lasting positive change.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect their first session to be a welcoming, supportive, and collaborative experience. The initial appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin developing a clear understanding of your concerns, strengths, goals, and what has brought you to therapy. I will ask questions about your current symptoms, personal history, relationships, stressors, and any previous counseling experiences to gain a comprehensive picture of your needs.

During the first session, we will work together to identify your goals for treatment and discuss what you hope to achieve through therapy. Whether you are seeking support for anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use concerns, relationship difficulties, life transitions, or other challenges, we will develop a plan that is tailored to your individual needs and priorities.

My goal is to create a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences at your own pace. I understand that starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and I strive to help clients feel heard, understood, and empowered from the very first session.

By the end of the initial appointment, clients often leave with a better understanding of their concerns, a clearer sense of treatment goals, and practical strategies or recommendations that can begin supporting positive change. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I will work alongside you to help you build insight, develop effective coping skills, and move toward a healthier and more fulfilling life.
