Great to meet you!

Dr. Maher is a licensed psychologist specializing in individual psychotherapy for adults. With extensive experience in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, and stress management, Dr. Maher is dedicated to helping clients achieve meaningful, lasting change. His approach is often described as "down-to-earth," fostering an environment where clients feel comfortable, understood, and motivated to engage in their therapeutic journey.

Having worked in a variety of clinical settings, including hospitals and outpatient clinics, Dr. Maher brings a wealth of experience in addressing the diverse challenges his clients face. He offers a compassionate, non-judgmental approach, tailoring each session to the unique needs and goals of the individual. His therapeutic style integrates a variety of evidence-based techniques, including motivational interviewing, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), to help clients build resilience, manage stress, and improve emotional well-being.

My approach to therapy

"I view each client as a whole person, and I believe in establishing a collaborative relationship focused on achieving mutually set goals," Dr. Maher says. "My graduate training in evidence-based, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) laid the foundation for my practice, and I continue to enhance my skills through ongoing professional development."

What you can expect from me

In our first session, my goal is to get to know you as a whole person and begin to understand the challenges you're facing. We'll work together to establish your specific goals for therapy, and I’ll take time to listen carefully to your concerns, experiences, and hopes for change. I strive to create a warm, non-judgmental space where you feel comfortable sharing openly.

We’ll start by discussing your current concerns, any past experiences that may be relevant, and any previous treatment you may have had. From there, I’ll provide you with an overview of how I work and introduce the techniques we’ll use, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), and motivational interviewing. We’ll work collaboratively to develop a plan that fits your unique needs.

I believe therapy is a partnership, and together, we'll tailor our work to fit what feels most helpful to you. By the end of the first session, you should have a clearer sense of what our work together will look like and how it can help you move toward your goals. My aim is to create a space where you feel empowered, understood, and motivated to make progress.
