Great to meet you!

Hello! I’m Dr. Heather Wisdom, and I am deeply committed to supporting individuals and couples in navigating life's challenges. With over 20 years of experience as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and advanced education including a Doctorate in Psychology specializing in Grief Counseling and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology, I bring a wealth of knowledge and compassion to my practice.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life, helping them overcome a range of issues, including trauma, grief, relationship struggles, and self-esteem concerns. My background in grief counseling allows me to work with those processing loss, and my work with couples helps rebuild trust and communication.

I also specialize in integrating modern therapy techniques, such as the Gottman Method, DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT), to support the healing process. I focus on understanding each person’s unique story and helping them create positive, lasting changes in their lives.

My approach to therapy

My approach is collaborative, empathetic, and rooted in evidence-based practices. I believe therapy is a partnership where you and I work together to uncover patterns, set goals, and find solutions that resonate with your personal values.

  • Empathy & Support: I provide a non-judgmental, compassionate environment where you can express your thoughts and feelings freely. My goal is to make sure you feel heard, understood, and validated throughout our work together.
  • Solution-Focused & Practical: While I deeply value exploring your past experiences and their impact, my focus is on helping you move forward with practical, actionable strategies. We’ll explore what’s working and what isn’t in your life and identify ways to make lasting, positive changes.
  • Tailored to You: No two people are the same, and neither is my approach. I adapt therapy to suit your unique needs, whether we’re addressing individual struggles like anxiety or depression or working with couples to improve communication and intimacy. My training in multiple therapy modalities means we have a variety of tools and techniques at our disposal.
  • Building Resilience and Empowerment: I work with clients to help them develop emotional resilience, enabling them to face life’s challenges with confidence and strength. This includes developing coping skills, improving emotional regulation, and fostering healthier relationships.

What you can expect from me

You can expect

  • A Safe, Supportive Environment: You’ll always feel comfortable, safe, and respected in our sessions. I create an atmosphere where vulnerability is encouraged, and you can explore your emotions without fear of judgment.
  • Personal Growth & Healing: Therapy with me is about more than just talking through problems; it’s about growth. You’ll learn strategies to cope with stress, manage emotions, and break unhealthy patterns. The aim is to help you heal and thrive, not just survive.
  • Practical Tools & Skills: Whether you’re working on communication in a relationship or dealing with overwhelming grief, I provide practical tools to use outside of sessions. These include mindfulness exercises, communication strategies, and ways to challenge negative thoughts or behaviors.
  • Clarity & Empowerment: You can expect to leave each session with greater clarity about yourself and your relationships. Our work together will give you the confidence to make informed decisions and take empowered steps toward the life you want to create.
  • A Path Forward: At the end of each session, you’ll walk away feeling more hopeful and equipped to tackle the challenges you’re facing. My goal is to ensure that each session brings you closer to the solutions and emotional well-being you’re seeking.
