Great to meet you!

My name is Jaana (pronounced "Yana"). I have spent more than 25 years working with children, teens, and young adults in a variety of settings—private practice, schools, college counseling, residential treatment, and hospital clinic. I earned my Ph.D. in School Psychology and M.A. in Human Development from Lehigh University, B.A. in Psychology from University of California at Berkeley, and A.A. in Psychology from San Diego Mesa College. My path has taken me from Finland to California, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, and now Maine, and I bring my all my experiences into my work with you.

My approach to therapy

Over the years, my experiences across places, people, and cultures have deepened my belief that therapy is less about techniques and more about connection, understanding, and being fully present with the person in front of me.

My approach is holistic and integrative, drawing from behavioral, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), dialectical behavior (DBT), and family systems perspectives. I tailor each session to fit your or your child’s unique needs, goals, learning style, and pace. I see therapy as a genuine, collaborative process built on trust, honesty, curiosity, and a willingness to grow. My style is down-to-earth and approachable, and I believe that humor can be an important part of healing.

Whether you're working through ADHD, anxiety, Autism, depression, life transitions, or relationship challenges, my goal is to help you gain clarity, strengthen coping skills, and reconnect with your sense of direction and self-worth.

What you can expect from me

My hope is that you or your child leave sessions feeling more grounded, understood, and equipped with meaningful tools you can begin using right away. Together we will explore what is getting in the way and build strategies to help manage emotions, improve communication, and face challenges with more confidence and clarity.

Above all, I want our work to help you feel truly heard, supported, and empowered with a stronger sense of self-trust, direction, and a belief that meaningful change is not only possible, but within reach.

At this time, I provide therapy exclusively via telehealth. I hope to offer in-person sessions in the near future for clients in Southern Maine and coastal New Hampshire.
