Great to meet you!

I'm Lauro Guzman, an LCSW who believes therapy should feel like a real, human conversation — not a lecture. Maybe you're lying awake at 3am with your mind racing, snapping at the people you love and not recognizing yourself, or carrying a loss you've never had room to grieve. Maybe a big life change — a new job, a divorce, becoming a father, a move — has left you unsure of who you are right now. Whatever brought you here, you don't have to make sense of it alone.

I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, anger, chronic stress, burnout, grief, trauma, and the self-doubt that creeps in during major life transitions. I have a particular heart for men who were raised to "tough it out," and for clients balancing cultural identity and family expectations — people who aren't used to asking for help and want a therapist who gets that. Together we'll figure out what's keeping you stuck and build realistic, everyday tools to move toward a steadier, more balanced life — at your pace, with respect and zero judgment.

My approach to therapy

My style is collaborative, direct, and relaxed. We'll talk honestly about what's happening in your life and what you actually want to change — sometimes with real-life examples, meaningful anecdotes, and a little humor to keep things grounded. I draw from several evidence-based approaches and tailor them to you rather than forcing you into one model. With Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) we'll notice the thought patterns fueling anxiety, anger, and low mood, and practice shifting them. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy keeps us oriented toward what's working and the next concrete step. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and mindfulness-based tools help you sit with hard emotions without being run by them and reconnect with what matters to you. I work from a person-centered, and strengths-based foundation — I pay attention to your history and pace, treat you as the expert on your own life, and build on the resilience you already have. Sessions are a space to think out loud, test new perspectives, and leave with tools that fit your real, everyday life.

What you can expect from me

In our first session we'll complete an assessment so I can understand your history, what's happening now, and what brought you in. From there we'll name the patterns holding you back and set goals that actually matter to you. Over time, the clients I work with tend to feel less controlled by anxiety and anger, sleep and concentrate better, communicate more openly in their relationships, and rebuild the confidence that stress, grief, or a hard transition chipped away. You can expect a steady partner who asks honest questions, keeps things practical, and tracks progress with you so you can see how far you've come. My hope is that you leave each session with a clearer sense of direction — and a real belief that things can get better. If this sounds like what you've been looking for, I'd be glad to start that work with you.
