Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and establish a foundation of trust and safety. During this time, we’ll explore what led you to seek therapy, the challenges you’re facing, and the goals you would like to work toward. I strive to create a nonjudgmental, compassionate environment where you feel respected, heard, and supported from the very start.
We’ll look at how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact. This involves identifying specific thought patterns or triggers that may be contributing to distress.
To help address these patterns, we can start discussing a variety of coping skills (such as grounding exercises, guided relaxation, thought-recording techniques, and strategies for challenging negative beliefs). These skills are designed to help you manage stress in the moment, build resilience, and create healthier ways of responding to difficult emotions or situations.
We’ll also address practical details such as scheduling, policies, and any questions you have about my therapeutic approach. My hope is that by the end of our first meeting, you’ll feel more at ease, have a clearer understanding of how we can work together, and be equipped with initial coping tools to begin your healing journey.
