Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Dr. Allison Pinto and I am a licensed infant, child and adolescent psychologist who works with families with children from birth to age 18. I also work with individual adults who are navigating their experience of grandparenthood. I provide consultation and psychotherapy online via telehealth.

When choosing a therapist to work with your child and family, it is important to find someone you "click with" and like, and it can also be helpful to know a bit about their training and background. Please go to my website at www.allisonpinto.com to find out more.

I collaborate with families who are navigating various transitions and challenges that are influencing their children’s social-emotional development and well-being. This might include:

  • Developmental transitions associated with infancy, toddlerhood, childhood or adolescence.
  • Family transitions relating to births, adoptions, marriages, divorces, moves, or out-of-home placements.
  • Friendship transitions relating to changes in peer group, childcare, school, neighborhood, or community networks.
  • Challenges managing thoughts, feelings, behaviors, or mental health diagnoses.
  • Challenges relating to difficult encounters with educational, legal or social service systems, or experiences of bullying, discrimination, or other forms of disrespect.

Please note that my orientation is not a good fit for children and families who are navigating domestic violence or high-conflict divorce or co-parenting.

I also work with families who are not currently experiencing any particular difficulties, but nonetheless want to fully embrace the unique opportunities for growth that are possible during that special stage of family life while children are young.

My approach to therapy

The approach I take is short-term, relationship-oriented, strengths-based, and individualized to each child and family. Here’s why:

  • I offer brief consultations and work with families for a time-limited “season” because this helps to keep efforts solution-focused and centered on your specific goals.
  • I team up with families because even as babies, children are developing the core capacities of mental health most especially through their close relationships with parents, family members, and other loved ones.
  • I focus on strengths because all children have gifts and talents, with great potential to shape their own lives and better our community.
  • I individualize approaches because in order for evidence-based methods to be effective, they need to be tailored to the developmental capacities of each child, and the values and culture of each family.
