Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Alyssa and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Virginia. I attended Virginia Commonwealth University for both my undergraduate and graduate programs and earned my Master’s degree in 2017. Since that time, I have been working in child welfare with a focus on attachment, parent coaching, and adoption issues.

My approach to therapy

I have become very passionate about supporting families that are formed through adoption, and especially with helping parents navigate the difficult and sometimes confusing issues that come up. I use an attachment approach as well as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and mindfulness, with an awareness of somatic needs as well. I also use the Seven Core Issues of Adoption (credit to Sharon Roszia and Allison Davis Maxon).

What you can expect from me

I can help you explore different ways of understanding and responding to your child or teen that will support your lifelong relationship. I work with adoptive parents and adult adoptees but am open to working with families that were formed by birth as well, if an attachment approach is what you are looking for! I strive to create a relationship with each client that is unique to their needs by being inquisitive and affirming. I have experience working with LGBTQ+ families as well!
