Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Amber Moody. I am a licensed mental health counselor. I have been practicing as a mental health counselor for the past 13 years. I graduated in 2012 with my Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Ball State University. I have experience of working with all different populations including people seeking help for depression, anxiety, PTSD/Trauma, LGBTQA+ issues, anger management and much more. I have experience working in a variety of fields including community based counseling, hospital, outpatient and private practice. My counseling approach is Eclectic. With an Eclectic approach to counseling means I am able to integrate multiple techniques from different methods including, client-centered, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), attachment-based, family systems, mindfulness, solution focused, feminst, Gestalt and trauma-focused CBT. I choose to pursue Mental Health Counseling as a career because I have always been an empathetic person and have a passion to help people.

I was born and raised in Indiana where I am a wife and a Mom of three children. My hobbies include reading, video games, being in nature, collecting houseplants and cooking. I also am a music lover. As a prior musician I have grown to have an emotional connection to music. I have used many of the techniques Ive learned through my studies to get through difficult times in my life. I love my job because it allows me flexibility to be a parent and work from home. Nothing makes me more proud of being a counselor than seeing my client's succeed by achieving their goals and report a more satisfied life.

My approach to therapy

Over the last 13 years of providing therapeutic services to clients I have explored a variety of treatment methods. I have realized overtime that every person is different and benefits from different types of therapy styles. I have found that the most effective way to approach therapy is to integrate multiple treatment methods. By incorporating techniques from multiple therapies, I can provide a broader and more holistic perspective on my client's issues. With an Eclectic approach to therapy I can tailor sessions to the specific needs and preferences of each client. I often use techniques through person-centered, cognitive behavioral (CBT), Gestalt, Feminist, motivational interviewing, mindfulness focused, motivational interviewing, solution-focused and trauma-focused CBT. Taking an eclectic approach to therapy allows me to maintain a flexible therapeutic perspective and be able to help as many people as possible.

What you can expect from me

My clients can expect to be provided a relaxing, confidential, non-judgmental environment where they can talk about anything. I believe one of the most significant aspects of therapy is the client being able to connect with their therapist. My clients can expect their first goal of therapy to be to build rapport and develop a trusting relationship with me. My clients can expect treatment duration and frequency to vary per client depending on the severity of their issues. Session length is typically between 50-55 minutes. It’s not uncommon for my clients to participate in sessions that involve a lot of exploring, processing, and discussing the best ways to address their current concerns. During sessions I will work with my clients to develop healthy skills to improve functioning. As your counselor, I am able to provide insight and help my clients make connections they may have never realized. My clients will receive extra support from a non-biased person who will also in provide gentle confrontation in situations such as when the client provides vague information, has consistent avoidance behavior and inconsistent information provided. I rarely assign homework but often send my clients home with information to explore and encourage skills be practiced/ used outside of the therapy room.
