Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Amy Sovocool, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a passion for helping individuals and families navigate life’s most challenging moments. I have extensive experience working with both adults and children across a range of settings, including military behavioral health, inpatient psychiatric care, and community-based treatment programs. My work has focused on supporting clients dealing with trauma, complex mental health conditions, and major life transitions.

I earned my Master of Social Work from Keuka College and my Bachelor of Social Work from Nazareth College. Over the years, I’ve developed a strong foundation in evidence-based practices, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and I specialize in individual and group therapy, treatment planning, and behavioral health assessments. I also have a background in crisis intervention, case management, and advocacy, which allows me to support clients in a holistic and practical way.

In my practice, I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and empowered. My goal is to help you build healthy coping strategies, improve emotional well-being, and move toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I believe that every person’s story is unique, and I work to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel genuinely heard, respected, and supported.

I draw heavily from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), helping clients build practical skills to manage emotions, tolerate distress, and improve relationships. At the same time, I tailor my approach to meet each client’s individual needs, integrating other therapeutic techniques when appropriate. My work is both structured and flexible—I provide guidance and tools, while also allowing space for clients to explore their experiences at their own pace.

With a background in military behavioral health, inpatient psychiatry, and community-based services, I have significant experience working with trauma, complex mental health conditions, and high-stress life situations. I’m comfortable supporting clients through crisis, but I also focus on long-term growth—helping people develop insight, resilience, and sustainable coping strategies.

I take a holistic and practical approach, recognizing that therapy doesn’t exist in a vacuum. In addition to emotional support, I help clients navigate real-life challenges by incorporating problem-solving, resource connection, and advocacy when needed.

Ultimately, I see therapy as a partnership. My role is to meet you where you are, help you make sense of what you’re going through, and support you in building a life that feels more stable, meaningful, and aligned with your goals.

What you can expect from me

In your first session, you can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can share what’s bringing you to therapy at your own pace. We’ll talk about your current challenges, your background, and what you’d like to get out of therapy.

Together, we’ll begin identifying goals—whether that’s managing stress, improving relationships, or building healthier coping skills. I’m active and engaged in sessions, offering guidance, insight, and practical tools when helpful.

By the end of our first meeting, my goal is for you to feel heard, more at ease, and have a clearer sense of direction moving forward.
