Caryn Cortez

Hello, my name is Caryn and I am an LCSW. I have been licensed for 9 years in the state of California and have been practicing psychotherapy since 2010. I have worked with children, adolescents, adults and older adults. I have a certificate in Applied Gerontology and have been trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I am currently the director of a Behavioral Health department, and I supervise unlicensed associate therapists so that they become licensed through our licensing board. I love empowering my clients, encouraging them to believe in themselves and try new things and I allow my client to set the pace of our work together.

I like to establish a comforting, safe rapport with my clients and I believe in full transparency with them. I do my best to never surprise them and to include them in everything my mandates require of me. As for a specialization, I have and continue to enjoy working with families who have been involved in Children's (Dependency) Court. I have also worked at the Children's court supervising Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA's).

As I mentioned before, I prefer to allow my clients to set the pace. Personally, I like for my clients to feel safe and comfortable during our time together. I do like to gather some background information first so that I can better understand their psychosocial history and how their past experiences may be negatively impacting them today.
