Great to meet you!

I think people are resourceful. Throughout our lives, we develop purposeful strategies to manage, survive, or thrive in our given circumstances. Therapy with me means having the space to be curious about your current strategies, understand where and how they developed, and to identify the ones that you feel are still working well and which you'd like to change to better align with what is most important to you today. I believe that therapy is just one of many ways a person can work on their healing. However, it is an enormously valuable space, and I’d be honored to share it with you.

My approach to therapy

I offer a relational-cultural approach to therapy. This means I will show up authentically and support you towards your goals through understanding your values, cultural context, and what is important to you. I work with individuals struggling with a range of presenting concerns, as my approach to therapy is person, context, and strengths-focused first, which means we can together conceptualize your presenting problems and solutions. I have experience working with those struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, parenting, body image, substance use concerns, sex and sexuality, and trauma. I particularly welcome working with individuals exploring sexual orientation and gender as intersected with their relational, racial, ethnic, religious, spiritual, professional, and other cultural identities.

What you can expect from me

I will start with introducing myself and sharing some logistics around confidentiality and practice policies. The remainder of the first session will focus on what you hope to work on, what you want to see be different or better aligned in your life, and what's contributed to where you are today. Our first session will not be entirely focused on historical information gathering. I do have more traditional "intake" oriented questions to ask you, however, I will ask those when and where they are relevant to understanding your goals. This may be in your first session or throughout the first several sessions of our work together.

Influenced by my training and past professional experiences, my approach to our first session is informed by One-At-A-Time thinking. This means that if we only meet for one session, I want that session to be as relevant, meaningful, and impactful as possible.
