Great to meet you!

My approach as a Licensed Professional Counselor is grounded in a calm, client-centered style that prioritizes each individual’s unique needs and experiences. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and valued. I understand that many individuals enter counseling feeling vulnerable or uncertain, and I work to meet them with empathy, openness, and consistency. I believe trust is the foundation of effective therapeutic relationships and focus on building genuine rapport through reliability and authenticity.

My personality is both compassionate and direct. I meet clients where they are while also gently encouraging growth and reflection. As an active listener, I use patience and curiosity to understand clients beyond surface-level concerns, particularly when working with individuals navigating mental health challenges, substance use, or justice system involvement.

I utilize evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing. Through CBT, I help clients reframe unhelpful thoughts; through DBT, I support emotional regulation and coping skills; and through Motivational Interviewing, I strengthen clients’ motivation for change.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Addiction Studies and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 25 years of experience. I have worked with diverse populations and take a flexible, strengths-based approach tailored to each client. Overall, I bring authenticity, professionalism, and a commitment to helping clients create meaningful, lasting change.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect their first session with me to be welcoming, supportive, and focused on helping them feel comfortable. I take pride in understanding that starting therapy can feel intimidating, so he takes a calm and nonjudgmental approach to create a safe space where clients can speak openly at their own pace.

During the first session, I will spend time getting to know the client, including their background, current concerns, and what brought them to therapy. I may ask questions about mental health history, substance use, life stressors, and personal goals, while remaining respectful and mindful of the client’s comfort level. Clients are encouraged to share as much or as little as they feel ready to discuss.

I will utilize this time to explain the therapy process, including confidentiality, expectations, and how sessions will typically be structured. I will work collaboratively with clients to begin identifying goals and what they hope to gain from therapy.

Overall, clients can expect a relaxed and conversational experience where they feel heard, respected, and supported. The first session is about building trust and laying the foundation for a strong therapeutic relationship, with no pressure—just a space to begin.
