Great to meet you!

Dr. Denny (Chi-Sing) Li is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) who has been serving individuals, couples, and families in Texas for more than 30 years. He has also been an approved supervisor for both the LPC and LMFT licenses for over 20 years.

Dr. Li holds a Ph.D. in Counseling and is both a practicing counselor and a professor of counselor education. His clinical and research interests include working with international students, Asian and Asian American individuals and families, couples, and those experiencing crisis, trauma, and life transitions.

Following the events of September 11, 2001, Dr. Li provided crisis counseling services to survivors in New York City, an experience that further strengthened his commitment to helping individuals and communities navigate trauma, loss, and resilience.

Dr. Li is dedicated to providing a warm, culturally responsive, and collaborative counseling environment where clients feel understood, supported, and empowered to achieve meaningful and lasting change.

My approach to therapy

Dr. Li believes that the counseling relationship is fundamentally important to the success and effectiveness of the counseling process. He strives to build a safe, trusting, and collaborative relationship in which clients feel respected, understood, and empowered to pursue meaningful change.

Dr. Li integrates a variety of evidence-based counseling approaches, including Person-Centered Therapy, Experiential Therapy, Existential Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Rather than relying on a single theoretical orientation, he tailors counseling to each client's unique needs, strengths, and goals.

His counseling approach emphasizes self-respect, freedom of choice, personal responsibility, resilience, and the development of practical strategies for creating positive and lasting change.

What you can expect from me

Dr. Li is an empathetic and attentive listener who takes each client's concerns seriously. He understands that seeking counseling is often a difficult decision and, for some, may feel like a last resort. From the very beginning, he strives to create a safe, accepting, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and respected.

With over 30 years of clinical experience, Dr. Li has the ability to tune in to clients' concerns, validate their experiences, and help them recognize their strengths while instilling hope during life's most challenging moments.

During the first session, clients can expect a warm and supportive conversation focused on understanding their concerns, exploring their goals, and beginning to develop a plan for moving forward. Many clients leave their first session feeling heard, understood, supported, and relieved to have shared the burdens they have been carrying alone.
