Great to meet you!
Elizabeth Barrientes is a Licensed Professional Counselor–Supervisor and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor who has spent more than 25 years helping young children and their caregivers feel more connected, understood, and supported. She specializes in early childhood mental health, working with children from birth to age 12 who are experiencing big feelings, behavior changes, trauma, or challenges in their relationships. She is currently accepting new referrals in the East Texas office.
Elizabeth’s background includes decades of work in settings focused on developmental, behavioral, and attachment‐related concerns in early childhood. Over the past seven years, she has also served as a Mental Health Consultant, providing assessment‐informed interventions and therapeutic support grounded in Child‐Centered Play Therapy.
She has completed advanced training in play therapy under the supervision of Julie Thigpen, LPC‐S, RPT‐S, and later earned certification in Sandtray Therapy through the Sandtray Compass Program with V. Fawn Colburn, MS, LPC‐S. Elizabeth is also EMDR‐trained and integrates EMDR, play‐based approaches, and sandtray work to help children process trauma, strengthen emotional regulation, and improve behavior and relationships.
In addition to her work with children, Elizabeth offers structured Parent Support Sessions to help caregivers understand their child’s needs, strengthen co‐regulation, and build secure, nurturing relationships at home.
Her approach is warm, client‐centered, and relationship‐focused. Elizabeth believes that healing happens through safety, connection, and attuned support—and she is committed to providing developmentally appropriate, trauma‐responsive care that helps each child and family move toward their goals.
