Great to meet you!

Welcome! I'm so glad you found your way to my page. You’re probably here because something just isn’t working for you in your life right now, or maybe for a while, and you want some new insight and tools to make some changes. Maybe you’ve felt anxious for a long time, but can’t quite get at the root of it. Or maybe you know where it comes from, but you’re struggling in your everyday life, job, relationships, or friendships to manage your emotions, or feel present. Maybe you feel stuck or uncertain in romantic relationships, or like you don’t know how to get your needs met or feel heard with your partner or spouse. You work hard and feel like you give a lot but you don’t get as much in return, or you’re always left feeling like you’re not enough. You may struggle with insecurity or self-doubt. You’re certainly not alone! I’m Emily, and I want to help you identify your feelings, your needs, your goals, and live your life the way you want to.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is warm, compassionate, and direct. The therapeutic relationship is the most important predictor of success in therapy, so relational work will be at the core of our time together. I believe oftentimes as humans living in the society we grew up in, we don't accurately and directly communicate what we are truly, deeply feeling - at least not always in the healthiest ways. We may have old coping skills that aren't serving us anymore, or communication patterns that aren't as helpful in our current lives and relationships. I believe in getting at the root of feeling collaboratively, helping you access them, and express them or cope with them in new and healthy ways. I think that being honest with ourselves and what we are feeling is the first step toward feeling more free, and authentic. I don't have the answers - you do - we just have to uncover them - together!

What you can expect from me

In our work together, my goal is to help bring you back to focus on YOU. It’s easy to focus on and talk about others in your life who are challenging or frustrating you. We’ll go deeper and explore where that feeling started - how old you were, what was your family like, what experiences did you have early on, or in young adulthood, that are showing up now in your adult life and causing strife or pain? Together we’ll challenge negative core beliefs, tap into your unique strengths as a human being, and work on creating new practices and pathways - with you in the driver’s seat - to be authentically yourself. I want you to come away from our sessions feeling like you are enough. Your emotions are not too much. You are a beautifully complex person and that is OK.
