Great to meet you!

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 50 years of experience in the human services field and nearly four decades as a licensed clinician in California. I earned my Master’s degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from Sonoma State University and bring a depth of clinical experience that comes from working with individuals, couples, and families across many stages of life. I’m also a workplace mediator and a Certified Parent Project Trainer, and I believe strongly in the value of continued personal growth. I’ve been engaged in my own therapy work for more than fifteen years.

I specialize in marriage and couples counseling, as well as individual therapy for anxiety, depression, men’s issues, and anger management. Couples work is typically short-term and goal-focused, often ranging from 10 to 25 sessions. In our work together, we focus on strengthening communication, clarifying values, increasing awareness of interpersonal patterns, developing a shared vision for the relationship, and identifying and removing obstacles that get in the way of connection. I also provide individual support for personal change, trauma-related concerns, and chemical dependency assessment, diagnosis, and referral when appropriate.

My approach to therapy

I provide a clear framework to help clients understand the difference between counseling and therapy, and how the therapeutic process works. This foundation supports the development of a strong therapeutic relationship and helps clients engage more intentionally in their work. My approach is thoughtful, structured, and collaborative, with early sessions focused on assessment, history, and goal clarification. Treatment planning evolves as insight deepens and needs become clearer.

I draw from communication theory, family systems, gestalt concepts, and a hierarchy-of-needs framework. My work integrates cognitive-behavioral, client-centered, insight-oriented, solution-focused, trauma-informed, and skills-based approaches. Depending on the client and situation, this may include mediation, behavioral contracts, communication skill-building, problem-solving strategies, and mindfulness or meditation practices. My goal is to help clients gain clarity, strengthen skills, and create meaningful, sustainable change in their lives and relationships.

What you can expect from me

The first session is focused on helping you understand what the healing process involves while I gather important information to better understand the nature of your concerns. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, your history, and what you hope to change. This initial meeting sets the foundation for our work together and helps determine the best path forward.
