Great to meet you!

I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with over 20 years of experience in the field. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, relationship and family issues. I have worked with youth and adults in outpatient, community mental health, and forensic settings. I have experience in individual, group, family therapy, psychological evaluations, academic research.

I believe that the client, not the therapist, is the expert in their own life. My goal is to support and guide my clients see their strengths, increase self-awareness, and build new skills so that they can learn how to live a more satisfying life and develop healthy relationships with themselves and others.

My approach to therapy

I focus on helping my clients identify and process how their emotions, thoughts, and past experiences influence current behaviors, relationships, and outlook on life. It's important to consider the influence of societal factors, power dynamics, and cultural backgrounds in solving problems. I use a combination of cognitive-behavioral, strength-based, trauma-oriented, and psychodynamic theoretical approaches. I provide evidence-based treatments, which include Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).

I have a client-centered approach to therapy. I meet the clients where they're at and go at their own pace. Setting therapy goals is a collaborative process, with the clients taking the lead on what is meaningful and realistic to them.

I strive to create a safe space to allow for honesty and direct and open communication with my clients, which I believe is key in order for therapy to work. I tend to have a more informal laid-back style and value the use of humor and creativity in the therapy process.

What you can expect from me

The first session will involve discussing what led you to seeking therapy, what you hope to get out of it, what approaches have and haven't worked for you in the past, any concerns you may have about the therapy process, and possibly explore some therapy goals.
