Great to meet you!

Hello, I’m Joseph Reis, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founder of Ascend Psychiatry in Rochester, Minnesota. With years of experience working in both community mental health and private practice settings, I specialize in the diagnosis and medication management of a wide range of mental health conditions including ADHD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and PTSD. I believe in a thoughtful, collaborative approach to care—one that respects your goals, values, and life story. I also have a strong interest in integrative mental health and stay current with evidence-based treatments, including the nuanced use of psychiatric medications.

My approach to therapy

My approach to providing care is collaborative, respectful, and rooted in both clinical expertise and genuine human connection. I take time to listen to your concerns, understand your history, and explore what’s most important to you in your care. Together, we develop a treatment plan that may include medication, lifestyle changes, therapy referrals, and supportive education. I specialize in working with adults navigating ADHD, mood disorders, anxiety, and trauma-related conditions, and I’m particularly mindful of how these challenges intersect with work, relationships, and physical health. My style is warm, direct, and nonjudgmental—I aim to create a safe space where you feel heard, empowered, and actively involved in your own healing process.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect to leave sessions with a clearer understanding of their mental health, a personalized treatment plan, and practical steps they can take to feel better. My goal is to help you gain insight into your symptoms, identify what’s getting in the way of your well-being, and find real, sustainable solutions. Whether we’re managing medications, navigating a diagnosis, or talking through everyday challenges, I strive to create a calm, supportive environment where you feel respected and understood. Over time, clients often report improved focus, mood stability, and confidence in handling life’s stressors—as well as a stronger sense of control over their mental health journey.
