Great to meet you!

I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Alabama, with over 20 years of experience working with individuals addressing mental and behavioral health issues. I have worked with diverse populations in various treatment settings to include: crisis stabilization, inpatient psychiatric and detox, residential, re-entry correctional facilities, out patient, and independent contract settings. I inherently believe that all human beings do the very best that they can, at any given time, with the knowledge skills and resources they have at that time. Life is full of changes and transitions, and many times the skills we used to cope during one phase, are not adequate for the next. I practice holistically, pulling from a vast array of theories and methodologies to help clients struggling with: self image/self esteem, stress management, relational discord, over thinking, life transitions, emotion regulation, mind body connection, role performance, assertiveness, boundaries, CNS dysregulation, and trauma.

My approach to therapy

My approach is always non-judgmental, compassionate, direct, solution focused, and client centered. You are the expert in your life, and the writer of your own story. I am here to share my knowledge, skills and expertise that I have acquired over the years, with the goal of empowering you to live the life that you so desire. I practice from a strengths perspective, and help clients identify what is working in their lives. We can then work together to creatively discover additional ways to add more of what already works, while at the same time, ways to eliminate and/or improve coping strategies, for the things in life that are not working. I utilize a combination of techniques grounded in mindfulness, psychoanalytic, CBT, DBT, somatic movement, biofeedback, root analysis and systems theory, based on individual client needs.

What you can expect from me

Our first session will be focused on gathering some history details and exploring any preferences in therapy that you may have. We will work together to identify and prioritize target areas for change. I use techniques from all theoretical perspectives to help with coping and symptom management, so that you can create a healthy life atmosphere, in which you can thrive, and not just survive. We will move at your preferred pace, and I will clarify and and answer any questions you may have. I make it a priority that every client leaves the first session with a few things to try. I know that it is not always easy to reach out for help, and that by the time most of us do, we are in dire need of some solutions, or actions that we can take towards positive change.
