Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Liz Verna, and I've been doing this for a while. I've used creative art therapy working with children, adolescents, and adults in schools, psychiatric hospitals, and day treatment facilities. I have also developed adapted-art therapy programs, founded women’s writing and art groups, and presented at creative arts therapy conferences. I've been in private practice since 2015. I currently run an exploration art collective that started as an experiment in 2020, which ended up being such a lifeline during the COVID shutdown that it continues to this day. I believe that therapy is powerful, but not as powerful as you are, and you have a creative mind that can soothe you, teach you, and show you patterns in your subconscious you can shift. I see our work together as a time of gathering the tools you have innately and learning to channel them.

My approach to therapy

I work with individuals who express their creativity in all and unique ways - cooking, writing footballing,- because creativity isn’t all about art, it’s about how you engage with the world, and we can use it as a tool for exploration and treatment in our work together. It's not mandatory, but it's helpful to use everything at our disposal to hear and understand. I don't have a fixed treatment plan you need to follow. I listen to where you are, and I come to you, and together we walk toward your goal or your clarity. And I just feel like whatever helps, helps. And your creative mind is a powerful, underused tool. It helps.

What you can expect from me

You will say, I don't really do art, but I was curious about what it was that you do. Or you will say, I journal sometimes. Or you will wonder if we do art during sessions (not necessarily, they are talk sessions, but we can if you want to!) I will ask you lots of questions because that's what I do, so it's ok if you can't articulate why you want to come to therapy. Just come. See you soon.
