Great to meet you!

Hello, I'm Mara Thornberg, a Licensed Professional Counselor licensed in Colorado, Montana, and Texas.

I earned my Bachelor's in Family Studies and Human Development from the University of New Mexico and my Master's in Counseling with a focus in Clinical and Mental Health from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

I've spent over eight years working in clinical and mental health settings with kids, teens, and adults, and another eight years serving in the military, which deeply informs how I show up for clients today.

I specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, self-worth, and relationship struggles. I'm trained in EMDR, Trauma-Focused Psychotherapy rooted in neuroscience, Somatic Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, and Trauma informed Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.

I see teens and adults online across Colorado, Montana, and Texas. Whoever you are and whatever you're carrying, you have a place here.

My approach to therapy

I tailor our work to fit you, not the other way around.

I start by listening closely to your story, then I collaborate with you to create a plan that fits your nervous system, your history, and your current reality.

I blend psycho-education, nervous system regulation tools, EMDR, somatic experiencing, and relational therapy so healing reaches both mind and body.

When you are ready to end sessions, we'll have a completion session to go over your goals, progress, closure and provide any additional resources or referrals needed or wanted.

The pace is intentional, the process transparent, and you keep full choice at every step.

If you are ready for supportive, practical change, I invite you to begin your path.

What you can expect from me

The first session is an intake and a conversation.

Together we'll go over your rights as a client, my practice policies, your history, what's brought you to therapy, and what you're hoping to get out of our work together.

You're welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable. This is your space, and we move at your pace.

By the end of session one, we'll have a shared understanding of your goals and a loose roadmap for where to go from here.

Whether you're navigating trauma, anxiety, a hard life transition, or just a feeling you can't quite name yet, we'll start where you are.
