Great to meet you!

Miriam Fernandes, MSN, PMHNP-BC

I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner providing compassionate, evidence-based care to adults. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, and burnout. My professional background includes experience in both high-acuity and outpatient psychiatric settings, where I have worked with individuals facing complex emotional and behavioral health challenges.

I strive to create a safe, respectful space where clients feel heard and empowered. My goal is to partner with you in developing a treatment plan that supports long-term wellness and meaningful change.

My approach to therapy

My approach to care is collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based. I believe mental health treatment works best when clients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their care. I take time to understand each person’s unique experiences, strengths, and goals before developing an individualized treatment plan.

I use a holistic framework that considers biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors. My work often includes comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and medication management, combined with supportive and solution-focused therapeutic interventions. I incorporate trauma-informed principles and prioritize creating a safe, nonjudgmental space.

I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, and professional burnout. My goal is not only symptom relief, but also long-term stability, resilience, and improved overall functioning.

I view the therapeutic relationship as a partnership, and I am committed to walking alongside my clients as they work toward meaningful change and wellness.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is focused on getting to know you and understanding what brings you in. I create a calm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you can speak openly about your concerns, symptoms, and goals.

During this initial visit, we will complete a comprehensive psychiatric assessment, which includes discussing your current challenges, mental health history, medical background, lifestyle factors, and any previous treatments. This helps me gain a full picture of your needs.

Together, we will identify clear and realistic treatment goals. These may include symptom stabilization, improved coping skills, better sleep, mood regulation, reduced anxiety, or overall improved functioning. If medication is appropriate, we will discuss options collaboratively, including benefits, risks, and alternatives.

My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and with a clear plan moving forward. This is the beginning of a partnership focused on long-term wellness and meaningful progress.
