Great to meet you!

I'm Nick, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Wisconsin specializing in anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and co-occurring mental health and addiction. I've worked across almost every level of care including inpatient psychiatric hospitals, crisis intervention, residential treatment, and outpatient private practice, so whatever you're dealing with, I've likely worked with it in one of its more intense forms. My approach is warm and direct. I use evidence-based methods including ERP, CBT, ACT, and Prolonged Exposure Therapy because they produce real, lasting change rather than temporary relief. I believe in being honest with you about what the work looks like, and I'll challenge you in a way that feels supportive rather than overwhelming. I earned my M.A. in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and have been working in the mental health field since 2010. Over the years I've treated hundreds of clients across very different settings and presentations. If you've tried therapy before and felt like it didn't quite get to the root of things, feel free to reach out and let's see if we're a good fit.

My approach to therapy

Therapy with me is collaborative, honest, and grounded in approaches that actually make a meaningful difference in your every day life. I primarily use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Prolonged Exposure Therapy for trauma depending on your specific needs. My style is direct but warm. I'm not going to let you stay comfortable in patterns that aren't working, but I'm also not going to push you faster than you're ready to go. Progress in therapy requires some discomfort, and my job is to ensure that discomfort is productive, rather than just hard for the sake of being hard. A lot of my clients come in having already spent time in therapy that felt more like venting than actual change. If that resonates, I focus on helping you understand the mechanics of what's keeping you stuck, whether that's OCD, anxiety, trauma responses, or substance use patterns, and building the specific skills to respond differently. My approach is to help you find ways of doing things that are actually different rather than just continuing to talk about them. I've worked with people at every stage, from acute crisis to high-functioning anxiety that nobody else would even notice, which means I can meet you wherever you are right now without judgment.

What you can expect from me

The first session is really about two things: me getting a clear picture of what's going on for you, and you getting a feel for whether I'm the right person to help. We'll talk about what's been happening, how long it's been showing up, and what's already been tried. The more I understand what's really driving things, the better I can help. By the end of our first session, you'll have a clearer sense of what we'd be working on together and what that process would actually look like. I don't believe in leaving people with homework and no context, or a plan that sounds clinical and disconnected from real life. If we decide to move forward, you'll know what to expect and why. Most importantly, you'll leave feeling like someone finally gets what you've been dealing with. That part matters a lot to me.
