During your first session, you can expect a warm, supportive introduction and a clear explanation of my role as your psychiatric provider. I will briefly review confidentiality, informed consent, and how communication and follow-up appointments work so you know what to expect moving forward. Most of our time will focus on a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, where I will ask about your current concerns, past mental-health history, medical history, medications, family background, and any factors affecting your daily functioning. I will also complete a mental status exam, which simply means I observe your mood, behavior, thinking patterns, and overall presentation to better understand how you’re doing. Once I gather enough information, I will share my initial impressions, discuss any possible diagnoses, and explain the reasoning behind them. Together, we will create a treatment plan that may include medication options, therapy recommendations, lifestyle changes, or lab work if needed. You will have plenty of time to ask questions, share concerns, and participate in every decision. My goal is for you to leave the session feeling heard, understood, and clear about the next steps in your care.
