Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Dr. Ryan Smith, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas. I work with individuals, couples, and families who are navigating relationship challenges, anxiety, stress, and important life transitions.

I hold a PhD in counseling and family therapy and have spent years helping people strengthen their relationships, improve communication, and navigate complicated family dynamics. My clinical research has focused on how modern technology and digital life impact our relationships; something many individuals, couples, and parents are struggling with today. Because of this, I often help clients think through how stress, social media, constant connectivity, and digital habits influence their emotional health and family life.

My style is collaborative, thoughtful, and practical. I aim to create a space where clients feel understood while also gaining insight and tools that make a real difference in everyday life. Whether you’re working through relationship conflict, parenting stress, anxiety, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life’s demands, therapy can help you move toward greater clarity, stability, and connection.

If you’re looking for a place to think through what’s going on in your life and relationships, I’d be glad to connect and see if working together would be a good fit.

My approach to therapy

My approach is grounded in family systems therapy, which means we look not only at the individual struggles you’re facing but also at the relationship patterns surrounding them. Many of the people I work with feel stuck in cycles of conflict, disconnection, or emotional overwhelm. Therapy gives us the opportunity to slow down, understand those patterns, and develop healthier ways of communicating, relating, and responding.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, we’ll spend time talking about what brought you to therapy and what you hope might change. You don’t need to prepare anything ahead of time or have everything figured out. Many people come in unsure of where to start, and that’s completely normal.

My role is to help guide the conversation so we can begin making sense of what’s going on in your life and relationships. Because my work is grounded in family systems therapy, we’ll often explore the patterns in your relationships and how they may be shaping the challenges you’re facing.

The first session is also a chance for you to see how I work and decide whether it feels like a good fit. Therapy tends to work best when it feels collaborative and comfortable.

Many clients find that even the first conversation brings new clarity and perspective as we begin connecting the different pieces of what they’re experiencing.
