Great to meet you!

Welcome! Your courage to work towards a better you is commendable. I socially locate as a biracial, bisexual/queer ciswoman and member of the Latinx community. With all of my clients, I aim to co-create an affirming space in which you can feel seen and heard in the ways that feel most important to you. I utilize a trauma-informed lens to help us hold space for what has happened to you, rather than "what is wrong with you." With that lens always in mind, I pay close attention to your needs as an individual client- in order to tailor my approach to meet your authentic needs. I utilize an eclectic approach from several modalities that I am trained in, to best support people from various lived experiences and backgrounds.

My approach to therapy

When starting out in therapy, our focus will be on developing a therapeutic relationship based on trust. I approach sessions with empathy and compassion in a nonjudgmental space where you may ask yourself, "What do I want from this experience?" I can support you through addressing current/past hurt and be present with you as emotions come up. I will be with you as you explore the internalized narratives that influence your functioning and wellbeing.

I believe therapy should be an empowering process, in which your strengths are highlighted. I consider multicultural systems and identities in my framework for treating adolescent and adult clients within the contexts that matter most to them. I have specialized interests in serving college age/young adult clients (18-35); multiracial/multiethnic identifying clients; clients who identify as racial minorities; LGBTQIA+ identifying clients and women.

What you can expect from me

First, we'll connect during a free phone consultation, in which I can learn a bit more about your concerns coming into therapy, and you can learn a bit more about my approach. If we are a fit for working together, we'll move forward with scheduling an intake session so I can learn more about your goals and needs for therapy. During the intake, I'll collect background information from you so that I have adequately assessed your mental health history before we start our journey together. This helps me best support you in our therapy sessions!

Depending on your needs, we can then partner in better supporting your mental health in a multiplicity of ways. For some folks, our focus is on first creating feelings of safety and building internal resources to help facilitate emotion regulation, prior to diving into exploration. For others, exploration may start with developing emotion language, and beginning to explore one's relationship to their emotions in order to better understand their emotion regulation repertoire.

I also collaborate with clients in better understanding their relationships to their thoughts, in order to help them feel more in control of unhelpful or distressing thought patterns. There are no right or wrong answers for your path to healing. We can work together in partnership to create goals that make sense for you and your life!
