Your first session with me is all about getting to know you and helping you feel comfortable—there’s no pressure to share everything at once or to have a clear “goal” right away. We’ll spend time talking about what brought you to therapy, what’s been feeling heavy, and what you’re hoping might change. I’ll also ask some background questions, but we’ll move at a pace that feels respectful and manageable for you.
You can expect a supportive, down-to-earth environment where you’re encouraged to be yourself. I aim to create a space that feels safe, collaborative, and nonjudgmental—one where difficult topics can be explored with care and, when appropriate, a little humor. Therapy doesn’t have to be all seriousness all the time, and sometimes laughter helps build trust and make hard conversations feel more approachable.
Together, we’ll begin identifying goals that feel meaningful and realistic for you. These might include increasing self-awareness, developing healthier coping strategies, processing trauma, strengthening relationships, or gaining clarity around patterns that no longer serve you. Especially in the early sessions, the goal is often to build a strong therapeutic relationship and establish a sense of safety, since real change tends to grow from there.
Most importantly, the first session is about starting a partnership. You can expect curiosity, honesty, compassion, and respect—and space to ask questions, share concerns, or simply show up exactly as you are.
