Great to meet you!

I’m Shenikua McGann, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who works with teens and adults, with a special focus on supporting single and divorced women navigating emotional recovery, stress, and life transitions.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused strategies. I also incorporate practical grounding techniques to help you manage overwhelming emotions in the moment.

In our work together, I focus on helping you build real, usable skills—whether that’s reducing anxiety, managing depression, or working through challenges in your relationships. I believe in a strength-based approach, which means I see you as capable, resilient, and able to grow, even during difficult seasons.

Clients often tell me they appreciate my compassionate presence and my ability to create a space where they feel heard, supported, and empowered to move forward.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, practical, and deeply attuned to your lived experience—especially if you are navigating life after a relationship, managing stress, or rebuilding your sense of self.

I draw from evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy, while also integrating relational and somatic perspectives. This means we’ll explore not only your thoughts and behaviors, but also how your past and present relationships have shaped the way you connect with others—and how your body holds and responds to stress, emotions, and life experiences.

In our work together, I help you build real, usable tools to manage anxiety, process emotional pain, and move through life transitions with greater clarity and confidence. We may focus on identifying patterns in relationships, strengthening boundaries, or learning how to notice and regulate what’s happening in your body during moments of overwhelm.

I strive to create a space where you feel safe, seen, and supported. Therapy with me is not just about talking—it’s about increasing self-awareness, developing practical skills, and creating meaningful change in how you relate to yourself and others.

Above all, I take a strength-based approach. I believe you are resilient and capable of growth, even in difficult seasons, and I’m here to support you as you reconnect with your strength and move forward with intention.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin building a comfortable, supportive connection. I understand that starting therapy can feel a little intimidating, so I aim to create a space where you feel at ease, respected, and free to be yourself.

We’ll spend time talking about what brought you to therapy, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you hope to get out of our work together. You don’t need to have everything figured out—this is simply a starting point.

I may ask questions about your background, relationships, and current challenges to better understand your story.

We’ll also begin identifying any patterns, stressors, or areas where you may want support.

Most importantly, this first session is about making sure you feel comfortable and supported. We’ll move at a pace that feels right for you, and by the end, we’ll begin to outline what our work together could look like moving forward.
