Great to meet you!

My name is Alyssa Hooker and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I earned my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2022 and my Master of Social Work (MSW) through the Joint Master of Social Work Program between North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2023.

I work with individuals across the lifespan, providing a supportive and collaborative space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. My approach is strengths-centered, meeting people where they are while helping them work toward meaningful and realistic goals.

I support individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, interpersonal stressors, and life transitions. I am familiar with a range of therapeutic modalities and tailor my approach to each person’s unique needs.

A fun fact about me is that I enjoy coffee and spending time with friends and family.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is strengths-centered, collaborative, and grounded in meeting people where they are. I believe each person is the expert of their own life, and I see my role as walking alongside them—offering support, guidance, and practical tools to help them move toward goals that feel meaningful and achievable.

I work with adolescents, young adults, and adults across the lifespan. I have experience supporting concerns such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, emotional regulation difficulties, interpersonal stressors, and life transitions. In sessions, I focus on creating a space that feels safe, authentic, and nonjudgmental, where people feel heard and supported without pressure or judgment. I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities and tailor my approach to fit each person’s unique needs, strengths, and lived experiences. Overall, my work centers on helping people build self-awareness, strengthen coping skills, increase self-compassion, and feel more grounded and confident in navigating everyday life.

What you can expect from me

The first session is really about getting to know each other and starting to build a sense of comfort and connection. I take time to learn more about what’s been going on, what led someone to seek support, and what you’re hoping to gain from therapy. We’ll explore current stressors, strengths, and any background information that feels relevant, all at a pace that feels comfortable. There’s no pressure to share everything at once as this is a space that moves with you. Together, we’ll begin to identify early goals and what meaningful progress might look like. I also talk through my approach so there’s clarity around how I work and what future sessions may feel like.

Overall, my goal is for the first session to feel grounding, supportive, and like the beginning of a collaborative process where you feel heard, respected, and understood.
