Great to meet you!

Hi! My name is Amaya, and I’m here to support you in exploring your relationship with substances, including cannabis, in a safe, nonjudgmental space. I take a person-centered, collaborative approach, meeting you where you are and honoring your unique experiences and strengths. My background in Sociology, African American Studies, and women’s health research helps me bring a thoughtful, systemic perspective, and I’m committed to helping you build resilience, clarify your goals, and make meaningful changes on your own terms.

My approach to therapy

I take pride in my person-centered, collaborative approach to therapy. I meet clients where they are, honoring their unique experiences and strengths, while helping them explore substance use, including cannabis, in a thoughtful and empowering way. I consider both individual and broader social factors when supporting clients in making meaningful, sustainable changes.

I bring expertise in cannabis psychoeducation and a harm reduction approach to my work with clients. This means I help you understand how cannabis and other substances may impact your wellbeing and explore strategies to use more safely or make changes that align with your goals. I integrate this with evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy, so our work is collaborative, nonjudgmental, and tailored to your unique needs.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know each other and building a comfortable therapeutic space. I’ll share more about my therapeutic style and approach so you know what to expect, and we’ll talk about your goals for therapy to make sure our work is tailored to what matters most to you. I’ll also gather some information about your substance use history and other relevant experiences, which helps me understand your unique context and how to best support you moving forward.
