Great to meet you!

Hi there, I'm Amy. I went back to school at 48 to get my masters and to become a Licensed Clinical Practicing Counselor. I guess you could say this is my second career -- the first being a stay-at-home mom to my 3 children. I am happily married for 32 years now. I've been fortunate to have served on boards, substituted in schools, worked in leadership coaching, and also ran a small design/staging business.

I loved going back to school as an older adult and in 2020 graduated with my Master of Education from Loyola University Maryland.

I work with women who have ADHD or suspect that they might. ADHD rarely travels alone - so often clients are experiencing anxiety, depression, or stress related to those challenges. I also enjoy supporting clients going through life transitions as well as parents on the often-rocky-but-very-rewarding road that is parenting.

My approach to therapy

I became a therapist because I wanted to give purpose to the pain that I had gone through and to let people know they weren't alone, that if I got through it, they could too. I have lived experience with anxiety, grief, stress (of course we all do!), panic, and trauma. As well as in parenting, marriage, and ADHD (2 of my adult children).

I take a strengths-based approach to counseling which basically means, what are your strengths and what is working in your life? That may seem like a tricky question since you're currently looking for help, but they're important questions. I favor growing what is good, while at the same time addressing what isn't. I also look at things systemically, meaning that we aren't looking at your situation as if you are in a bubble, we are considering your history, your environment, your current relationships, etc.

When I am not counseling, I enjoy being creative through gardening, decorating and home projects. I also practice yoga, read, and love spending time with my family, friends, and dogs.

What you can expect from me

Our first introduction will likely be by phone for about a 10-15 minute conversation which helps me to get a better sense of what is currently going on in your life and bringing you to therapy. Also, we want to make sure that I am the right person to meet your current needs. Since your rapport with your therapist is the most important factor in determining your success in therapy, I want to make sure we get that right!
