Great to meet you!

My Journey and What I Believe

Hi, I'm Dr. Tate, and I'm a licensed clinical psychologist. I believe that therapy is a powerful tool for healing and growth, and I’m dedicated to creating a space where you feel truly heard and supported. My journey in this field began with a deep-seated desire to understand the complexities of the human mind, which led me to earn my degree in Clinical Psychology from Gallaudet University in 2006.

My professional experience is as varied as the individuals I have been fortunate to work with. Over the years, I've had the privilege of providing direct mental health and behavioral counseling to adults in many different settings, from community clinics and research centers to residential facilities and day treatment programs. This diverse background has given me a broad perspective on the issues my clients face, and it has taught me how to connect with people from all walks of life.

I specialize in helping individuals navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. I also have extensive experience working with clients on issues related to gender identity and a variety of family and relationship conflicts. Beyond therapy, I have a passion for assessments, and I've conducted comprehensive evaluations for children, teens, and adults with concerns about ADHD, learning disorders, and developmental disabilities. These experiences have not only shaped my expertise but have also solidified my belief in the importance of a compassionate, personalized approach.

My ultimate goal is to work collaboratively with you. By understanding your unique story and goals, we can create a tailored plan that helps you feel more empowered, resilient, and ready to thrive.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is rooted in a simple idea: I want to meet you exactly where you are.

My clinical work is an integrated mix of well-established methods, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Positive Psychology. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all model. Instead, I carefully tailor our sessions to fit your unique needs and goals.

Whether you're looking for deep insight and personal growth or simply seeking practical tools for symptom relief and improved day-to-day functioning, my top priority is to help you get there. I believe in a collaborative process where we work together as a team to achieve what you hope for.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and see if we're a good fit. Think of it less as a formal appointment and more as a first conversation.

My main goal is for you to feel safe and comfortable. We'll start by talking about what brought you here and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. There's no pressure to share more than you're ready to. It’s an open space for you to tell your story, at your own pace.

By the end of our time together, I hope you leave feeling heard, understood, and with a sense of hope for the future.
