Great to meet you!

Hello, I'm Dan. Welcome! I'm glad that you're here and that you've chosen to begin or continue your journey in therapy. I’m a licensed therapist based in Rochester, Minnesota, my home since 2010. I earned my undergraduate degree in psychology from Florida State University before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where I served honorably for 25 years. While on active duty, I completed the coursework for my Master’s degree in counseling from Winona State University and went on to finalize my internship and graduate in 2015, shortly after retiring from service in 2014.

My approach to therapy

The foundation of my therapeutic approach is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and a unique blend that borrows from my own life lessons as a person, a parent, and a client. I am fortunate to work in a profession that continues to encourage psychological and emotional flexibility, and believe that my strategies will evolve as I continue to learn and grow as a care provider.

What you can expect from me

Our self-talk—the scripts we have learned about our own identities and self-worth—shape how we see the world and ourselves. When those patterns are harsh or limiting, they can lead to feeling lonely, afraid, angry, or hopeless. I hope that in working with me you will see a positive change in how you perceive and communicate with yourself.

Similarly, in learning to sit with difficult thoughts and emotions instead of pushing them away, you learn to see them as something that you can face and work through rather than fear or avoid.

I believe strongly in the power of healthy humor to help us heal and grow. While there will be difficult experiences in therapy, I hope that you can learn to genuinely laugh at yourself and the absurdities of being alive.
