I always prioritize 3 things in the first session 1. introducing myself virtually 2. ensuring you understand and agree to the Informed Consent (limits to confidentiality, mandated reporting, etc.) and 3. completing a thorough psychosocial intake which basically means I want to know as much as you are willing to share with me about your identity and noteworthy lived experiences. I see it as learning the big picture before diving deeper in subsequent sessions. I, off the bat, display my genuine and authentic self in order to build strong rapport that will carry the therapeutic process along.
