Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Jen Ackerson, a Pennsylvania licensed professional counselor, art therapist, and clinical supervisor with over 10 years of experience in substance use and mental health treatment. I specialize in working with adults navigating attachment, trauma, and life transitions.

I have a background in art therapy, supervision, and counselor education. Beyond my clinical work, I supervise emerging counselors, teach at the graduate level, and my research explores the intersections of creativity, autonomy, and healing in counseling and supervision.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy should be a space where you feel seen, heard, and understood. My approach integrates person-centered therapy, Gestalt techniques, and creativity, with a focus on self-awareness and personal growth. I also incorporate expressive and experiential methods, like art-based interventions, to support clients in processing emotions that may be difficult to express in words. My approach is grounded in authenticity, creativity, and collaboration. My goal is to help you reconnect with yourself in ways that feel meaningful.

Therapy with me is collaborative. I’ll help you identify what’s working, what’s not, and how to move toward the life you want. I take a strengths-based perspective, helping you build resilience, explore your values, and develop practical tools for change.

What you can expect from me

I love to help creatives and artists stuck in self-doubt reconnect with their spark.

In our sessions, you can expect a mix of deep reflection, active problem-solving, and creative exploration. We’ll work together to challenge unhelpful patterns, build self-compassion, and develop strategies that align with your goals. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of yourself, a sense of direction, and tools to navigate challenges with greater confidence.

I value humor, honesty, and real conversations. Therapy doesn’t have to feel clinical or detached. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe to be yourself, explore your emotions, and take steps toward healing and growth.
