Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Joseph, though most people call me Joe. I have worked in the mental health and substance use treatment fields for nearly five years and am passionate about helping individuals navigate life's challenges with greater confidence and self-understanding.

I hold a Master of Professional Studies in Integrated Behavioral Health and am both a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) in Minnesota.

My clinical interests include working with LGBTQ+ individuals, identity-related concerns, anxiety (including generalized and social anxiety), depression, trauma, ADHD, personality disorders, and co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns. I strive to create a supportive, affirming, and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their experiences, develop practical coping skills, and work toward meaningful personal growth.

My approach to therapy

I strive to foster a welcoming, grounded, nonjudgmental, and respectful therapeutic environment. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship begins with trust—but trust is not something I expect from clients simply because they have entered therapy. Rather, I take the time to understand you as an individual, honor your lived experiences, and build a relationship that earns your trust over time.

I do not believe therapy is about telling you who you should be or how you should live your life. Instead, I view therapy as a collaborative process in which we work together to identify your goals, navigate challenges, and create meaningful, lasting change.

Because every person is unique, I tailor my approach to fit your needs and experiences. I draw from a variety of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). By integrating these approaches, I help clients develop greater self-understanding, strengthen coping skills, and build a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, we will discuss what brings you to therapy, review your current concerns, and explore what you hope to gain from the therapeutic process. I will also provide information about how therapy works, discuss expectations, and address any questions, hesitations, or concerns you may have about beginning treatment.

I recognize that developing trust and gaining a full understanding of your experiences cannot happen in a single session. Rather, the first session serves as an opportunity for us to begin building a therapeutic relationship and establishing a foundation for our work together.

My goal is to create a warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where you can feel safe, seen, heard, and understood as we begin exploring your unique experiences and goals.
