Great to meet you!

My name is Kaka Echere, and I am a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a Master of Science in Nursing, trained at New Mexico State University and Wilkes University. I have been working in behavioral health since 2003 — across outpatient, inpatient, and substance abuse treatment settings — and I bring more than two decades of real-world clinical experience to every client I serve.

My primary focus areas include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, panic disorders, sleep disorders, stress, and men's mental health. I have extensive experience with serious mental health conditions including schizophrenia and psychotic spectrum disorders.

My path to mental health care was shaped by years of life experience and a pastoral background that gave me a deep capacity for listening, compassion, and meeting people in their most vulnerable moments. I don't just believe mental health work is a profession — I believe it is a calling. And that conviction shows up in how I care for every person who comes to me for help.

My approach to therapy

My approach is solution-focused, empowering, and rooted in genuine partnership. I believe that recovery from mental illness — whatever form it takes — is built on openness, collaboration, and a shared commitment to moving forward.

I use Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) as my primary therapeutic framework: an approach that centers what's working, what the client wants, and what concrete steps will get them there. Rather than dwelling at length in the problem, SFBT helps clients reconnect with their own strengths and begin building toward a better future — often more quickly than they expect.

I integrate this with careful medication management, thorough psychiatric assessment, and the kind of attentive listening that my pastoral background instilled in me long before I entered clinical practice. I take the time to truly understand each person — not just their symptoms, but their story — and I build treatment plans that reflect that understanding.

Recovery is possible. I've watched it happen for over twenty years. My job is to help you find your path to it.

What you can expect from me

The first session is thorough and purposeful — I take the intake process seriously because a precise, in-depth assessment is the foundation of everything that follows.

I'll ask detailed questions about your history, your current symptoms, and how things have been affecting your daily life. I'll want to understand not just what is happening, but why — and that requires you to be open and forthcoming. The more honest you can be, the more accurately I can assess what's going on and the more effective our plan will be.

By the end of our first session, we'll have a clear diagnosis, a treatment plan, and a shared direction. You'll know what we're working toward, how we'll get there, and what to expect next.

I've been in this field for over twenty years. Whatever you're carrying, I've likely seen something like it — and I know that help is possible. I'm glad you're here.
