Great to meet you!

Aloha, my name is Kellen Imada and I am a licensed clinical psychologist currently practicing in Honolulu, Hawaii. Previously, I held licenses in both Washington State and New York, where I established and operated my own private practices. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of life experiences.

I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the APA-accredited Hawaii School of Professional Psychology in Honolulu, Hawaii. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from Occidental College in Los Angeles, California, where I studied both psychology and studio art. My graduate and post-graduate training includes a strong emphasis on depth psychology, with coursework completed through the Hawaii Institute for Depth Psychology and advanced study in psychoanalytic psychotherapy through the Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies. Most recently, in 2023, I completed a year of intensive psychoanalytic training at The Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is rooted in creativity, expression, and a blend of deep, reflective work with practical, real-world strategies. I believe therapy should be both curious and grounded—an exploration of your inner world while also tackling the everyday challenges you’re facing.

I believe therapy is an art form. It’s dynamic, intuitive, and constantly evolving. Everyone brings their own rhythm, background, and emotionality to the work, so I try to stay flexible—paying attention to timing, structure, spontaneity, and what each moment calls for. The therapeutic relationship itself can be a powerful space for connection and discovery, where both comfort and discomfort reveal important pieces of who we are.

What you can expect from me

I incorporate creative tools like art, drama, imagination, dreams, and intuition to help people move beyond stuck patterns or rigid narratives about themselves and their lives. At the same time, I also believe in being direct and solution-focused when it’s needed, especially confronting elements of who we are that we have unconsciously avoided. I aim to support a deeper connection between mind and body, help clarify emotional and relational needs, and encourage honest self-expression. My hope is that therapy helps you feel more connected to who you are—more grounded, more trusting of your emotions, and more balanced overall.
