Great to meet you!

I have over thirteen years of experience working with inpatient, outpatient, and wilderness mental health agencies across the state of North Carolina. I have worked with people from all ages and backgrounds but the majority of my work has been with adolescents involved with the legal system and families with social services. If you have a child that you want considered for effective and engaging therapy services, look no further!

I specialize in and enjoy working with children and adolescents struggling with defiance, conduct issues, trauma, and emotional difficulties. I enjoy working with culturally diverse children and adults, who are diagnosed with autism, various learning disabilities, developmental disorders, psychological and behavioral disorders such as defiance and conduct concerns. I have over a decade of experience providing therapy and assessing for therapy to children who are from at-risk, traumatic, or abusive environments. Although I do not offer formal TF-CBT sessions and am not currently rostered, I have been trained to assess for and provide Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from the Duke University of Collaboration with the National Child Traumatic Stress Network in the past. I have also specialized in helping adolescent males with conduct disorders that include problematic sexualized behaviors as well as the victims of trauma.

My approach to therapy

I believe in a balanced life-style. Work hard, play hard! I implement a strengths-based and person centered approach to working with adults and adolescents to achieve their goals. I believe that our history and experiences shape us into who we are today and how we view the world so it will be important to understand those things. Specifically with adolescents, I strive to be on their level and to relate to where they are coming from. From there, my goal is to help parents and their children meet in the middle and both get what they want. I respect and encourage evidence based interventions as well as holistic and lifestyle goals as well to reach our full potential.

What you can expect from me

My goal is to present as my genuine and authentic self as we get to know one another and see if it will be a good fit. I hope to understand your short and long term goals for therapy within the first couple of sessions. Most recent full time job was assessing adolescents and children in order to make appropriate recommendations and referrals for therapy services. I have a mastery of the DSM-V, mental health diagnosis assessment and treatment planning, case management and client advocacy, individual and group therapy facilitation, community collaboration, and crisis response. I have been praised for client-centered focus, results with clients, and strong work ethic with a dash of healthy humor.I am experienced in developing creative and engaging therapy through client-oriented facilitation skills.
