Great to meet you!

I am licensed in North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (License No. S11175) and Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (License No. 0701014867). I hold an MA in Christian Counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (May, 2014) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Queens University of Charlotte (May, 2007). I completed graduate internships at Novant Health (2012) in one of their family practices, and in at a therapeutic boarding school, Wolf Creek Academy (2014). I worked as an outpatient therapist from January 2015 to October 2016 and then as the therapist for an Intensive Alternative Family Treatment program from October 2016 to May 2018. In June 2018 I began working for the Department of the Navy as a clinical counselor providing counseling to service members and their families. I have experience with adolescents and adults in individual, group, couples, and family settings who were experiencing issues with behavioral, emotional, relationship, and family dysfunction, as well as with people who have histories of addiction and trauma.

My approach to therapy

My orientation to counseling is based on cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, developmental and systemic theories of counseling, and I employ Rogerian, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, and motivational interviewing. I believe that the primary process of counseling involves helping clients to find the resources within themselves to develop requisite skills and address themes related to their presenting problem(s) or underlying issues.

What you can expect from me

It is my goal to help my clients gain insight into their emotional, behavioral, and psychological functioning and identify sources of distress or dysfunction then begin learning and developing skills, techniques, options and plans to address identified issues. Clients can expect there to be motivation and gentle challenges from me to engage in the process but ultimately to be in control of how and when issues are addressed, that is, therapy will help you work on what you want when you are ready to address issues.
