Great to meet you!

Dr. Sheryl A. Neverson is a compassionate clinical social worker, trusted leader, and wellness advocate with more than 25 years of experience supporting individuals, families, and communities on their healing journeys. She is the CEO and founder of Genesis Wellness Solutions and Transitions Therapeutic Services, where she integrates faith, wellness, and evidence-based practices to provide thoughtful, holistic behavioral health care.

Dr. Neverson believes that true healing happens when emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being are addressed together. Her work is deeply rooted in trauma-informed, person-centered care, with a focus on helping people reconnect with their strengths, purpose, and resilience. Clients often describe her approach as warm, grounding, and empowering—creating a space where they feel seen, supported, and encouraged to grow.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Neverson brings extensive experience in leadership, program development, and clinical training. She has spent her career building strong teams, improving access to care, and mentoring emerging clinicians with compassion and integrity. Her passion for equity, empowerment, and social justice guides both her practice and her leadership.

Dr. Neverson earned her Ph.D. in Social Work from Howard University, her Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Maryland.

Outside of her professional roles, Dr. Neverson is a devoted mother, sister, and caregiver for her elderly parents. These lived experiences continue to shape her empathy, perspective, and deep commitment to walking alongside others with care and understanding.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is warm, caring, and collaborative. I believe healing happens in safe, supportive relationships where individuals feel heard, respected, and empowered. I work from a trauma-informed and person-centered lens, recognizing the impact of life experiences while honoring each client’s strengths, resilience, and unique story.

I am deeply committed to culturally competent care, approaching each person with humility, curiosity, and respect for their cultural identity, values, faith, and lived experiences. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, and I intentionally tailor treatment to meet clients where they are.

My work is also solution-focused, helping clients identify practical strategies, set meaningful goals, and move toward positive change at a pace that feels right for them. I frequently integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize unhelpful thought patterns, build healthier coping skills, and strengthen emotional regulation.

Above all, my style is relational and supportive. I strive to create a space that feels grounding, affirming, and hopeful—where clients feel safe to explore challenges, gain insight, and grow into their fullest selves.

What you can expect from me

Your first therapy session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and determine whether working together feels like a good fit. I understand that starting therapy can feel overwhelming, so my goal is to create a welcoming, supportive, and respectful space from the very beginning.

During our initial session, we will begin with brief introductions and a conversation about what brings you to therapy. We will review relevant background information and discuss your presenting concerns, focusing on what feels most important to you right now.

We will also talk through confidentiality, including your privacy rights and any legal or ethical limits to confidentiality, so you feel informed and comfortable. This is a time for you to ask questions and share any concerns you may have about the therapy process.

Together, we will explore your goals for therapy and determine next steps. The first session is not about having all the answers—it is about building understanding, clarity, and connection. My hope is that you leave feeling supported, heard, and confident about moving forward.
