Great to meet you!

Welcome to TrueSelf Counseling & Consulting! I’m so glad you’re here!

Do you sometimes feel “stuck,” like nothing can change? It takes courage to reach out. If you are ready to take that step, I'd love to hear your story.

My name is Alison Mitchell. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in NH and ME. In addition, I hold a PhD in Clinical Social Work from the Smith College School for Social Work. My MSW is from the University of Maine School of Social Work.

I work individually with adults experiencing life transitions, parenting stress, depression, anxiety, or traumatic stress, often in combination with substance use disorder. I hope to facilitate your work building yourself and connecting with others in healthy ways. The overall goal is to cultivate your sense of who you are, moving toward who you want to be.

My approach to therapy

Together, we will identify and explore your strengths and your resources to help support meaningful change. In therapy, I offer a warm and nurturing non-judgmental space where people can gain insight about why we do the things we do, connecting with your true self. We grow to understand who we are in the context of relationships – with ourselves, those close to us, and the greater world around us. Understanding our past, we can become more effective living our present (and future).

What you can expect from me

Before we meet for the first time, I typically offer a 15-minute free phone consultation to be sure we’re a good fit for each other. When we meet for the first time, I’ll introduce myself and share a little about what to expect. You’ll have space to tell your story, and together, we’ll start unpacking why you’re connecting now for therapy. By the end of our first session, you'll leave with a clearer sense of why you reached out, and what it could feel like to move forward together.
