Great to meet you!

I have over 20 years of experience working with resilient people with histories of trauma, who are coping with mental illness or overwhelming distress, facing significant life challenges, or who just need a listening ear and objective perspective. We will build a foundation of trust allowing for open communication in which you feel safe to disclose thoughts and feelings at your pace. To describe my theoretical orientation with more technical jargon, I use an integrated approach to psychotherapy, relying primarily on cognitive-behavioral and attachment theory.

My approach to therapy

I have deep respect for the work done by law enforcement officers, correctional workers, fire and emergency medical personnel, veterans, and all people in service professions. People who choose these professions are so deeply committed to helping others, they often don't seek help for themselves until they are really struggling. First responders carry burden and are often misunderstood by well-meaning therapists. The "you talk, I listen" model is ineffective for action-oriented professionals. I will seek to understand without judgement and ask questions to move you toward growth and solutions. Together, we will build a relationship on trust, so you feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings as we work toward your goals.

What you can expect from me

I will honor your lived experience and take your lead in identifying your targets for therapy. Once the problem is clear, I can assist in refining your personal goals so progress is measurable. Your perception of progress is most important. We won't spend endless sessions in which you talk and I listen silently. Our sessions will be interactive and collaborative. After all, if one-sided conversations were helpful, you could save money and talk to your dog (or cat)!
