Hello and Welcome!! My name is Afiya K. Hooker and I am a Licensed Psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience in the mental health wellness field and 10 years of experience as a psychotherapist. My specializations include anxiety, depression, trauma and the selves (self-identity, esteem, actualization, etc.).
In general I would be described as an eclectic therapist, utilizing several different techniques and modalities to give my clients the best client-centered therapy for their specific needs and concerns. However, I also consider myself a psychoanalytic therapist since I am very assessment driven and evidence-based focus.
As a psychotherapist, I believe it is important to build a foundation and create an appropriate framework when working towards specific goals. Therefore, we start with a psychological assessment for the first session and begin the great work of positive change thereafter. I have a passion for helping clients regain control, redirect negative thoughts, utilize positive and practical coping skills in order to transition to effective managing, and create positive change within their everyday lives.
